Are Gay Relationships and Christianity Incompatible?

Tonight, I was looking through Yahoo Answers! One question caught my eye. A homosexual gentleman, judging from the wording, was asking about homosexuality. See the full question at https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20140713153520AAObdnG. So, "Are Gay Relationships and Christianity Incompatible?"

He asks if gay relationships and "Christianity" are incompatible. What is Christianity? Is it a thing that is decided by man? Does it change from time to time? Is it up to the whim of the "times"? Webster's Dictionary defines Christianity as, "religion that follows Jesus Christ's teachings: the religion based on the life, teachings, and example of Jesus Christ". What he is really asking is, "Would Jesus Christ bless a homosexual relationship?"

Where do you go to find out what Jesus Christ taught? This seems like a simple question. Yet, I see this as the place where most "Christians" begin to lose their way. Jesus Christ has not lived on earth for over 2000 years. Yet, he has not left us alone. We were left with his teachings. All we need to do is listen to the Bible. But, we must have a heart that is willing to accept its authority and what it says.
Answering the question at hand begins with, "What is the purpose of sex?" From the beginning, sex was for the purpose of procreation. Genesis 1:27-28, "And God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him. He created them male and female. 28  And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply and fill the earth, and subdue it. And have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the heavens, and all animals that move upon the earth."

Throughout history, homosexuality is born out of distorting the purpose of sex. This can be seen in the Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, and in modern society. Consider my case study, “Homosexuality’s role in the downfall of the Roman Empire”. As societies advances then their citizens gain more free time. They search for new forms of entertainment. Sex moves from being a beautiful thing between a husband a wife to being a playground. Deviations start to appear such as bloodletting, golden showers, putting feces on each other, etc.

God warned us about this cycle. Romans 1:26-27, “26  For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27  and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. Bible’s position on homosexuality is quite clear.

Can you be a Christian while God turns his back on you? If you choose to live a homosexual lifestyle then God will let you do that. But, just as the above verses show, God will turn you over to your “degrading passions”. This would be equal to us “disowning” one of our children today. They are still our child. We still love them. However, while they are engaging in evil behavior, we cannot help them.

Romans chapter 1 addresses “Christians” who claim to be homosexual. Romans 1:32 states, “They know that God's law says that people who live in this way deserve death. Yet, not only do they continue to do these very things, but they even approve of others who do them.” This verse also applies to “Christians” who are not homosexual but approve those who are. Faithful Christians are called to live by God’s natural law. Anything separate from that is sin.

It is impossible to live by God’s law and fleshly lusts at the same time. Jesus himself warned us of this. Matthew 6:24 states, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” Here God was speaking of money. But, it applies to any form of sin. We cannot be slave to sin while stating to be children of God.

There are many reasons that Christianity and homosexuality are not compatible. As Christians, we are called to put away fleshly lusts. Homosexuality is not only listed as unnatural but also as a fleshly lust. Through Romans, God tells us that he will “give them over” to degrading passions. Why would you proclaim to follow a God while continually doing things that he hates? It is quite clear that being a Christian follows one path and being homosexual follows another. It is impossible to be a faithful Christian and a homosexual.
